a good deal on a great look August 29, 2008
OK, lets start with the shipping...YIKES! The louvers were shipped via UPS, which if you didn't know actually stands for United Parcel Smashers. The box looked like it had been run-over by the UPS truck itself. The box was WAY to big for the louvers and they slopped around inside...also, there was only a thin layer of foam sheeting around them with bubble wrap on the corners. As someone who has worked in the furniture moving and storage business for nearly 20 years...I could not believe that the louvers were unharmed. Unbelievable! Now the the fit and finish part... Just like the other reviews state...follow the directions to the letter and you will have no problems. I did the install completely by myself and everything turned out perfect! I must admit, it would have been easier with help, but if you take your time you should have no problem. I actually put about 3 inches of "delicate surface" painters tape around the entire back window and on the trunk lid just to be sure not to knick the paint. This tape will peel off easily and leave no residue even after 3-4 days. The tape is also very helpful when marking the final positions of the brackets. I also used Loc-tite brand clear silicone around the brackets. Loc-tite brand advertises no shrinkage, no discoloration, and it is safe to use in fish aquariums so it should really stand up to the water if you happen to get caught in a downpour. Bottom line...follow the directions, take your time and you will have no problems.

I like the louvers but the other day it rained on them and the spots from the rain look like they are permanant. We tried washing them off but it didnt work so then we tried some "orange Glo" and it kinda made them dissappear a bit.

I am editing this 6 month old review to tell you DO NOT BUY THESE LOUVERS.
Previously I had glowing report for these louvers and some installation tips. Now I'm telling you DO NOT BUY THEM. After having them on my car for 6 months I have come to discover that in four spots they have damaged the rear window glass. There are 2 lines of brackets that hold each slat to the next one that run from the trunk end to the roofline, approximately 1 foot from the left and right. 4 of these things rubbed the glass and etched little notches in my glass. I called the manufacturer and the only solution they offered was more foam rubber tape to minimize contact. These louvers are off my car for good and never to return. They look great but sooner or later my rear window will shatter with them on. I am now concerned that it might shatter anyway since it's already compromised.

Based on prior experience with an Astra-Hammond louver in the '80's and info obtained from a internet forum, I purchased this louver. I wasn't home at the time of delivery or else I would have not accepted the package due to extensive damage to the carton. After taking numerous pictures, I held my breath, opened the box and examined the contents. It appeared that the box had been previously opened and the louver re-wrapped. The louvers were found to have a few areas where the black powder coating had rubbed off due to the packaging damage and bare metal was showing. Additional pictures were taken. Following a call to Astra-Hammond, they stated that I needed to return the louver to the company that I had purchased it from and that they did NOT have a touch-up kit to provide. Since I had considered re-painting the louver to match the car's paint in the event I didn't like the flat-black look, I decided it wasn't worth the hassle to try to return it and to fork-out the cash to have it re-painted. Note that I am not putting any blame on Astra-Hammond but on the vendor that shipped it. What's interesting is that there appears to be no info on the carton nor any paperwork that identifies who the supplier was beyond Amazon.com.

Love the louvers. Look great on the car. Follow the instructions to the "T" and you want have any trouble with them. Great product and cheaper than the rest.
