Wonderful car seat for my 3-year-old! We love it! December 27, 2008 This car seat replaced my Graco Toddler Safe Seat. I was so tired of my daughter, who is just turning 3, trying to climb over the high sides and buckling her in. The seat was fine for her as a much smaller toddler (1-2 years) but it was time for a change. I bought her a Graco Turbo Booster and decided to return it. It is suitable for older children but there is no way it should be legal to place a 3-yr.-old in a booster seat with an adult seat belt. Their bodies are not mature enough to handle a crash with a regular seat belt. Also, I was not very comfortable with the plastic frame of the Graco. Knowing this seat has an aluminum frame makes me feel more secure about placing the life of my child in it. The many reviews I read about this seat sold me on it. The only real negative thing I read was that it is heavy. I agree, it is heavy. I would never dream of hauling this seat through an airport. I use this seat all the time in my car so I do not have to worry about lifting it. I am very pleased with the look of this seat. It is low-profile so it is easy to climb in and out of. The colors are great and match my new Suburban perfectly. The seat belts are great as well. They even added small velcro attachments to hold them in place when the child is out of the seat. That way, they do not go behind the child and make it hard to find. My daughter says the seat is comfortable, which is very important. The only negative thing I can say about it is that there are no cup holders. This would be a great feature, as we practically live in our car. Convenience is a great thing! I highly recommend this seat to anyone. I am about to buy my second for my husband's vehicle.
Great Product!! December 12, 2008 Right away, we could tell this was a very good car seat. We bought 3 to fit across one seat of my van. It's a tight fit, but it works! The seat is the sturdiest I have seen, and comfortable for your child. Expensive, but worth every penny!!
Worst seat ever made December 11, 2008 We bought two of these for our newborn twins because they were able to sit side by side in our van. The width of these seats made them perfect for our car, everything else was a nightmare. The foam behind the seats in both seats cracked and broke off in chucks. It is a piece of junk. I took the first seat back as soon as the foam cracked. Fortunately we live near where they are made. They did give me a new seat. It cracked in a week. But the worst and most unforgiveable things was the tether that locks the carseat in place. It is extrememly long. We took the seats on an airplane trip and when we got to our destination we put the seats in the car. We did not lock in the tether because there was no place on that particular car for the tether to go. Unfortunately the tether had come loose during the flight and was no longer rolled up in the back of the seat. The tether was so long it actually went from the middle seat and unbeknownst to me was hanging out of the door when we drove off. It then got caught under the wheel of the car smashing the middle baby seat into the other. We spent the morning at the ER with our two babies and one now has a permanent scar on his ankle from this accident. I went into Target to check out the tether lengths on the other seat brands. We realize that this was a crazy accident. But the length of the other tethers is about half that of the Sunshines. It's not something you think about until the worst happens, but as a car seat manufacturer they ought to consider these things. Why should their tether be so much longer then everyone elses? Also the seats are very heavy. We purchased the travel carrying covers for them (supposedly makes them easier to travel with in airports). Both carrying straps broke withing 20 minutes of trying to lug those heavy carseats around. A piece of junk. Sunshine - you should be ashamed of yourselves.
Radian 65 December 6, 2008 This is a solid, sturdy car seat. Lots of steel in the frame. Folds easily for storage or transport. Has a long life before expiration (8 years). Will work from infancy until your child no longer needs a car seat. ( unless your child is very heavy for their age. 65 refers to the maximum weight capacity.. If you have a child who is heavier in relation to height consider the radian 80 ) It has a long rating for reverse seating ( the safest ) and for 5 point harness forward facing (2nd safest). This means you can keep your child rear-facing for a long time (more than the usual 12 months) to keep h/er as safe as possible. The Radian 65 and the Radian 80 have the same height slots, though, so unless your child is short and heavy, you won't gain anything by buying them the 80.
More seat in a smaller space November 22, 2008 This is a great car seat that seems to be structurally much stronger than traditional seats while occupying much less space.
We have a Rav4 and the seat fits very neatly behind the passenger or driver. Once our son turns one I'm going to get a Radian85 and put my son in the 65 while moving my three year old up to the 85. For a car with a smaller back seat these seats are fantastic.
I just traveled to Orlando from Newark and was delighted the seat could fold and was east to install in my rental (Toyota Highlander). One word of caution the seat weighs just over 25 pounds
Very happy with the seat so far.
