Editorial Reviews:

Product Description

Personal vendettas, hidden treasure, and a monkey named Carl will send bounty hunter Stephanie Plum on her most explosive adventure yet.

The Crime: Armed robbery to the tune of nine million dollars

Dom Rizzi robbed a bank, stashed the money, and did the time. His family couldn’t be more proud. He always was the smart one.

The Cousin: Joe Morelli

Joe Morelli, Dom Rizzi, and Dom’s sister, Loretta, are cousins. Morelli is a cop, Rizzi robs banks, and Loretta is a single mother waiting tables at the firehouse. The all-American family.

The Complications: Murder, kidnapping, destruction of personal property, and acid reflux

Less than a week after Dom’s release from prison, Joe Morelli has shadowy figures breaking into his house and dying in his basement. He’s getting threatening messages, Loretta is kidnapped, and Dom is missing.

The Catastrophe: Moonman

Morelli hires Walter “Mooner” Dunphy, stoner and “inventor” turned crime fighter, to protect his house. Morelli can’t afford a lot on a cop’s salary, and Mooner will work for potatoes.

The Cupcake: Stephanie Plum

Stephanie and Morelli have a long-standing relationship that involves sex, affection, and driving each other nuts. She’s a bond enforcement agent with more luck than talent, and she’s involved in this bank-robbery-gone-bad disaster from day one.

The Crisis: A favor for Ranger

Security expert Carlos Manoso, street name Ranger, has a job for Stephanie that will involve night work. Morelli has his own ideas regarding Stephanie’s evening activities.

The Conclusion: Only the fearless should read Fourteen.

Thrills, chills, and incontinence may result.

5 out of 5 stars I never got it, and the seller doesn't answer my emails.   August 28, 2008

Fearless Fourteen (Stephanie Plum, No. 14) I never got it, and the seller has failed to reply to two emails. Amazon has lost a longtime customer.

1 out of 5 stars Different Title, Same Old Story   August 27, 2008

I've loved Stephanie Plum from the start but ENOUGH ALREADY! I'm 1/2 way through the book and can't wait for it to end. Far-fetched scenarios, local kooks, etc. Note to Janet Evanovich: Finish the series (and choose Ranger!)

2 out of 5 stars Kind of boring   August 27, 2008

What can I say? I missed Ranger. I liked Morelli in the earlier books, but his relationship with Steph is now so stable that it's a little boring. I really liked Ranger spicing things up from Books 10-12, but it's getting frustrating now. He and Steph never get anywhere. She is inconsistant, one minute thinking about tearing his clothes off and then blandly telling him she's not interested. I find it hard to believe that someone like Ranger would just happily sit on the sidelines while the girl he's after is with someone else. I think he would either up his pursuit or move on. Someone suggested that a new love interest for him would be good, while I would like to see him and Steph seriously heat it up (rather than just flirting all the time), where it's at now is just boring, so I agree, give him someone else. I'd like to see Steph squirm when she realises his focus isn't on her anymore, at least for a time...someone also suggested that an overseas South American job would be good for the two...I think so too. I can't see Ranger changing his stripes completely, but I think it would do his character a great deal of good if he had to rethink things, either moving on with someone else or deciding to make something of a commitment to Steph. But I don't know where that would leave poor Morelli. I like him too, but

3 out of 5 stars Familiar Fourteen   August 25, 2008

Stephanie Plum's latest bounty hunter adventure involves a relative of her boyfriend Joe Morelli. Loretta Rizzi has disappeared leaving Stephanie and Joe in charge of her teenage son Mario, a/k/a Zook. While Stephanie is trying to find Loretta she is also trying to find Joe's cousin Dom who robbed a bank and stashed the money someplace. As if that wasn't enough, Stephanie is working for Ranger for a few days as bodyguard for spoiled rotten singer Brenda. Suddenly Stephanie finds herself involved in the world of online video games, people looking for buried treasure, kidnapping, and more. No wonder she is feeling blue!

"Fearless Fourteen" is a typical Stephanie Plum book. It is one of the funnier books in the series, especially with the online gaming scenes and there are some laugh out loud moments involving Lula and Tank. As usual, author Janet Evanovich fills the book with over the top characters including the familiar ones - Stephanie, Lula, Connie, Joe, Ranger and Grandma Mazur - and some new or not so familiar characters like Zook, Brenda, Dom, Mooner, Gary the Stalker, and Loretta. There is not a lot of Ranger in this book and Stephanie's sister and kids are MIA. All of the action in the book is over the top as always and nothing is believable.

If you've read one Stephanie Plum book, you've basically read them all. There is not much character development and Evanovich tends to rely on the same plot points in each book - bungled bounty hunter attempts; Grandma Mazur refusing to act her age; cars getting blown up; visitations at funeral homes. None of this is deep reading but it did make for mindless reading on a sunny summer afternoon.

3 out of 5 stars Out of Ranger   August 25, 2008

I disagree with many of the readers who thought Janet wasn't up to her usual game in this book. It wasn't the best of her work, but it certainly kept me entertained throughout. I did think characters like Brenda & Gary didn't add anything or propel the story. I would have liked to see more of Ranger in the story. Maybe Janet needs to develop a femme fatale for Ranger, maybe have Stephanie be jealous? I overall enjoy the series and look forward to future books.
