shakespeare's christmas November 21, 2008 "Shakespeare's Christmas" is not the strongest entry into the Lily Bard series. The main problem is that the story is not set in Shakespeare, AR among all of the quirky, small town characters we have come to know & love. Lily travels back to her hometown of Bartley, AR, so we have a new cast of characters to deal with. They just aren't as charming or interesting. Couple the Bartley setting with a so-so mystery, and the result is boring. I recommend this book only to those who are already fans of Charlaine Harris.
Lily is my favorite! Reviewer: Renee S. N.Y.C. November 9, 2008 I too love everything that Charlaine Harris writes, but unfortunately I read them in one sitting - and she's just not writing fast enough for me. I thought that this third Lily Bard story was excellent. The plot was deeper and the characters were more fully fleshed out, even the minor ones. It was also interesting to get a glimpse of what Lily was like before the Bad Thing happened, through the eyes of her old friends and family. The mystery was pretty transparent, but I really didn't mind that. I was more interested in tracking Lily's progress since the last book. All in all, a satisfying read. A note - for those of you who have computers - ( I don't ) please tell Amazon to get the next two books in the series on Kindle so we all can read them. Maybe then I'll understand why Ms. Harris doesn't plan to write any more books for this series. As much as I like Sookie and Aurora and Harper, Lily is my favorite.
shakespears Christmas September 8, 2008 I loved this book, Even though I could only get it on Amazon, it has been out of print for a few years. I was well worth waiting for, so I could read the series in order. I loved the entire series, I wish Ms. Harris would write another Lily Bard Book.
Come away, O human child! To the waters and the wild, With a faery, hand in hand... -The Stolen Child, Yeats March 8, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Since Lily Bard left her home town of Bartley Arkansas after experiencing a life altering and tragic event, she has rarely come back. But her sister is about to be married and Lily is the maid of honor, so sisterly duty takes her there.
Lily makes Christmas plans with her private Detective boyfriend, Jack, after the wedding and back at her home in Shakespeare. But when Jack is assigned an 8 year old unsolved kidnapping case, things suddenly get crazy in Bartley.
I paid an obscene amount of money for this out of print book as I am totally addicted to this series and simply could not wait for the December 2008 re-release. Was it worth that huge pile of clams? You bet; I'd pay it all over again in a heartbeat.
While Lily finally starts to heal with her family and friends and the life that was before she was hurt, we get to watch her relationship with Jack progress. The mystery is a heartbreaking one that had me in an internal battle with myself about turning to the end ahead of time to see whodunit.
For such a small number of pages, Ms. Harris utilizes them to their fullest and provides a well rounded book with maximum entertainment. I am ready for the next one!

Shakespeare's Landlord Shakespeare's Champion (The Second Lily Bard Mystery)
Great Series for Harris Fans February 13, 2008 I first fell in love with Charlaine Harris' Sookie Stackhouse series. I like Lily Bard even better. Basically, Lily is a cleaning woman that was brutally attacked. raped and nearly killed years before the series takes place. While this attack has definately shaped Lily's character, we meet her at a time when she is finally coming to terms with everything that has happened to her and who she's become.
What sets this series apart are the supporting characters and the description of life in a small town. While the crimes commited in the book are intruiging enough to keep you turning the pages well into the night, it is the people that Harris writes about that make you head to the bookstore first thing in the morning for the next installment.
The series is in this order: Shakespeare's Landlord, Champion, Christmas, Trollop and Counselor.
According to Harris' website, she does not plan on continuing the Lily BArd series at this time. Boo.
