Should be called "Not so Healthy Cooking for Two" September 10, 2008 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
I want my money back...first of all the book that is received is not the book that is shown. The book I got had crab cakes on the front, and another example of false advertisement is the "healthy" cooking. Yes, the dishes may be low-fat but there is more to healthy than just eating things lower in fat. Being a single full-time college senior, plus working five days a week, I do not have time to make most of the meals in here. I see a nutritionist a couple times a month and work in a diet office in a hospital so I was SHOCKED to see how high the calories are for these recipes. You will be hard-pressed to find a "good" recipe for less than 300 calories and the cholesterol and carbohydrate values are ridiculous. You may not have high fat, but you will have heart disease and diabetes if you get this book.
Misprint July 28, 2008 0 out of 6 found this review helpful
This book starts out with the cover recipe stating it is cornish game hens.It looks like crab cakes to me with some beans not salsa. The recipes are boring. I was going to give this as a gift Off to shop for some thing else.
Yummy, healthy! July 9, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
If I weren't a college student, I'd give it five stars, but hey, I'm just to young to enjoy some of the sophisticated (and more expensive) meals on the list. Great for a young, successful man or woman who loves to cook great, healthy food.
Best cookbook I own! May 11, 2008 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I bought this cookbook several years ago based on someone's recommendation, and consider it one of my best purchases ever. The recipes are simple to prepare, delicious and healthy. I have not been disappointed in a single recipe. I was a little turned off at first because there were no photos of the prepared foods, but after months and months of use, I can honestly say that I use this cookbook much more than my glossy cookbooks with the color photos. I've since bought it as a gift for friends and relatives and everyone has loved it! My favorite recipe is the Couscous with Sweet Potatoes and Yellow Squash (the aroma of this dish alone is worth the price of the book!), but as I said, everything I've tried is absolutely wonderful!
Very Handy April 2, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
The first thing I ever cooked was the Bachelor's Prize Chicken from this book. It has been a hit with everyone that I've cooked it for, including my VERY picky ex-roommate. There are some recipes, mainly seafood, that I find it hard to find the ingredients for due to where I live. Otherwise, the ingredients are easy to find and not fussy. I own some Gordon Ramsay cookbooks but there's no way I'll ever be able to cook something from them!
I also like the simplicity of the cookbook itself. I don't feel bad when I spill stuff all over it because it wasn't a great work of art to begin with!
