5 out of 5 stars Brings back some great memories   December 2, 2008
I started watching WWE during the Attitude Era. Hell in a Cell was one of the creations of that era. It's great seeing all of the these classic matches. All of them are great. Even the ones from the current era. It brings back some great memories. A must have for fans.

5 out of 5 stars Where careers and a tooth. Go to die!   November 11, 2008

The most brutal match created to settle the score. Hell in a Cell has produced many famous and barbaric matches in wrestling history. They aren't kidding around when they say,"this isn't for the faint of heart." This is no doubt meant for the heartless and the wars these men had in these matches are proof. The set is hosted by Mick Foley and I can't really think of anyone better who could have pulled this off. This is an excellent collection of matches and I'm sure a majority of wrestling fans will be satisfied. All of the matches except for one contain full entrances and the matches are in their entirety.

Bad Blood; 10-5-97
Undertaker vs. Shawn Michaels
The one that started it all. Time hasn't hurt this one. This was a war, these guys fought and beat each other down. Some real nice spots and that ending was something special. 5/5

RAW; 6-15-98
Stone Cold Steve Austin & Undertaker vs. Kane & Mankind
A nice start to the match and entertaining. But the match isn't in its entirety. Which is very disappointing. 3.25/5

King of the Ring; 6-28-98
Undertaker vs. Mankind
Man, this match is plain brootal! Yes, it is kind of short but the damage that is done is just unreal. Mankind just takes some sick punishment. 5/5

RAW; 8-24-98
Mankind vs. Kane
Good thing this wasn't on ppv. The match was just above decent. Some vicious chair shots but nothing compared, to the two one on one match ups earlier. The ending added to the match. 3.5/5

No Way Out 2-27-00
WWE Championship
Triple H(C) vs. Cactus Jack
This entire feud was awesome. Their street fight match the previous ppv was sick. This match is a bit sicker. They brawled and beat each other with weapons. That cage dive was always and will be remembered. I also give props to WWE for playing the match all the way through. 5/5

Armageddon; 12-10-00
Six man HINC for the WWE Championship
Kurt Angle(C) vs. Undertaker vs. Rikishi vs. Rock vs. Triple H vs. Stone Cold
For the first time six men competed in HINC. The match is just too good. Non stop action all over the place and some funny moments. Like Triple H eating a large amount of cage. Words can't too well describe this one. 5/5

Disk 2
Judgement Day; 5-19-02
Triple H vs. Chris Jericho
The match itself is very good and brutal. But it's mostly remembered for the beating referee Tim White took. 4.5/5

No Mercy; 10-20-02
WWE Championship
Brock Lesnar(C) vs. Undertaker
The match I think that really made Brock the "next big thing". This is another very brutal match. Lots of fighting and just plain vicious. 4.5/5

Bad Blood; 6-15-03
World Heavyweight Championship
Triple H(C) vs. Kevin Nash
Started out pretty boring but picked up alot. The weapon use and mindless violence turns this into an entertaining bout. This one grows on me with every watch. 3.75/5

Bad Blood; 6-13-04
Triple H vs. Shawn Michaels
This was my favorite feud during that time. And one of my favorites ever. This one on one war was the best way to end this rivalry. I really wish I can see this again for the first time. 5/5

Disk 3
Vengeance; 6-26-05
World Heavyweight Championship
Batista(C) vs. Triple H
Still in my eyes, Batistas best match to date. This match had many brutal moments and is in my top 5 as the best on the set. 5/5

Armageddon; 12-18-05
Undertaker vs. Randy Orton
A great ending to a nice rivalry. This match has some nasty chair shots and the ending was excellent to me. 5/5

Unforgiven; 9-17-06
2 on 3 handicap match
DX vs. The Big Show, Shane & Vince McMahon
For some reasons I wasn't too crazy about this rivalry from what I remember. However, this turned into an extremely brutal bout. Just plain vicious at times and I thought for sure, Shane was seriously injured. My second favorite match of 06. 5/5

Survivor Series; 11-18-07
World Heavyweight Championship
Batista(C) vs. Undertaker
The other high profiled superstar who brings out the best in Batista. Up to this day, the ending still doesn't bother me. And in retrospect, I appreciate it more. Considering it gave birth to the best rivalry this year to me. 5/5

I would have liked to hear from other superstars that participated in these matches during the documentary portion but oh well. I really can't see how any wrestling fan cannot enjoy this set. It is a very valuable piece of wrestling history. And is easily one of the best releases WWE has put together so far. The set doesn't contain any extras.

4 out of 5 stars The ultimate feud ender!   November 9, 2008
6 out of 6 found this review helpful

I have got to say there are some really brutal matches here. Almost all the matches here, except the six man championship match and Raw tag team match on disc 1, are feuds that were built up that had to end in a hell in the cell cage match. Almost all of the time in pro wrestling cage matches are used to end feuds once and for all. The wrestlers usually carries on to different story lines after said match. TNA should make notice of this and use there terrordome for a feud ender like a hell in a cell. The Hell in the Cell would have to be considered the ultimate cage match. I would venture to say that the first few are the best also. I do not think we will ever see better than the mankind vs undertaker hell in the cell. Also it would have been cool to have like a half hour documentary talking about how the hell in the cell idea came together. Discuss what wrestling need to do to adjust to wrestling in it. Talk to the wrestlers on what it is like. Like other WWE dvd's there are matches that are already on other disk but I would give a thumbs up to this one.

5 out of 5 stars Welcome to The Devil's Playground!!!   November 3, 2008

Brutal. Unforgiving. Satanic. Hell on Earth. These terms have been used to describe a structure, over 2 Tons of Steel, 16 Feet (now 35 feet) high(!) which has inspired terror and revulsion in many a WWE Superstar. Only 17 of these modified cage matches have taken place since 1997, and with good reason. This type of match ends or shortens careers. Ask Superstars such as Mick Foley (as Cactus Jack and Mankind), The Undertaker, Triple H (who is nearly undefeated in HIAC), Shawn Michaels, Vince and Shane McMahon, The Big Show, Brock Lesnar, Chris Jericho, Kevin Nash, Batista, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Kurt Angle, The Rock, Rikishi, Randy Orton, Edge, Kane and several others. They have all been featured in this Hellish structure, and this three-disc DVD set highlights some of the most brutal ones to take place. Blood, broken bones and brutality, the three B's are the order of the day in the Devil's Playground. I would give this set a definite 5 out of 5 stars. A really excellent and action-packed DVD set. Get this one!!!

4 out of 5 stars An Almost-Perfect Collection   November 2, 2008
WWE's HELL IN A CELL three-disc boxed set collects (Almost....) every "Hell In A Cell" match since the first one way back in 1997. Shawn Michaels and The Undertaker set the bar high, with insane risks and gruesome violence, but the bar would soon be raised by Mick Foley (A.K.A. Mankind, Cactus Jack, & Dude Love), who took-risk-taking to a whole new level, with falls off of and through the Cell, chairs, thumbtacks, & flaming-barbed-wire-wrapped-two x 4's. That's part of the problem with this collection: After Foley's four deranged Cell matches, the rest, no matter how good, pale in comparison. That's one of a few small complaints I had with the set.......The others were the missing HELL IN A CELL match (The only missing one, if I'm remembering correctly....) featuring The Undertaker vs. The Big Boss Man, which is really no big loss, since I remember it being a dreadful match, but it'd be nice if it were included, if only for the sake of completeness. The last minor quibble is the lack of extras or commentaries.....It would have been great to have match-specific commentaries by some of the Superstars. But as it stands, HELL IN A CELL is a great set, running 9 hours over three discs, featuring 14 long matches, each introduced by the legendary Mick Foley himself. For old-school WWF (Yeah, I said it!!!!) fans looking to revisit the glory days, you really can't go wrong.
