A large, 3.5-inch screen and easy-to-use controls make navigation a breeze. | The main feature of the iCN 550 is its user-friendly interface. Simply type in your destination on the touchscreen and let the iCN 520 plan the best route for you to take. You can even program multiple destinations and have the iCN 550 guide you to all of them. All information is displayed on a 3.5-inch landscape LCD with 320 x 240 resolution and support for up to 65,000 colors. During the journey, you'll also receive clear voice instructions to guide you, letting you focus on your driving. There's even an included remote control for even greater ease when controlling the unit's functions. The slim case of the iCN 550 is only one inch thick, making it pocket friendly. Plus, the 550 adds handy buttons on the front panel that immediately direct you to the nearest available parking, as well as the nearest points of interest (POI), such as a gas station or restaurant. All this information is stored in the unit's massive, built-in POI database. You can also add your own custom POIs via the 550's USB port and the included PC connectivity software. The iCN 550's 12-channel GPS receiver is driven by Navman's SmartST 2005 software, which contains highly detailed local country maps for your region. The maps offer you extensive information, including nearby cross streets, emergency service locations, and your preferred points of interest. SmartST 2005 is packed with other outstanding features, including 3-D map view, zip-code search, back-on-track rerouting (for when you take a wrong turn), area avoidance (so you can dodge the traffic hotspots), and, as mentioned, an extensive POI database. The Active POI function allows you to set an alarm to tell you when a particular POI is approaching. SmartST 2005 also provides ongoing journey information, including ETA, distance to go, time to go, and remaining miles/km per hour. The Navman iCN 520 comes complete with all North American maps, including Hawaii, Alaska, Puerto Rico, and Guam loaded right onto the built-in 4 GB hard drive. As a convenience, the SmartST 2005 navigation software provides navigation and voice guidance in English, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Dutch, Danish, and Swedish. Thanks to an internal rechargeable battery and an easy-to-use windshield mounting unit you can move from car to car with ease. You can even use it outside the car as a handheld device to help guide you to your final destination on foot with street-level maps.

The worst GPS on the market June 26, 2007

I have a 550 and have had nothing but problems. Sent back to Navman after 6 mos. of very light use because the touch screen stopped working. They took 6 weeks to fix it. Now trying to buy updated maps for US and told Navman does not support map updates for this product anymore. What a joke.

Don't waste your money. I already own an icn510 which is great. I purchased this item for the other car expecting it to be newer and better. What I got was a unit that frequently froze up requiring me to pull over and reboot the system, (especially time consuming on the highway). Also it fails to indicate the name of the next street approx 30% of the time leaving you completely baffled if there are more than 1 street within 300 feet, which is not uncommon. Finally the only accent loud enough to hear are the British ones which use british terms such as motor way etc, can be annoying if you are use to words like highway etc. All in all a very frustrating device. Leave it to Navman to make a second generation device that is inferior to the first. Congrats, you can keep this POS.
